Moving Logs to the Mill

We realize that not everyone has the ability to move heavy logs and position them so that they can simply be rolled onto the mill's loading arms. We have equipment that may allow us to do this for you, depending on conditions and available help. You can read more about our log moving tools on our Equipment page.

End-Sealing Logs

To get the highest quality lumber from a log, the ends of the log should be coated with a sealer soon after the tree has been felled and bucked into logs. The sealer will slow evaporation which reduces cracks in the end of the log (end checking).

We can apply industry leading Anchorseal® wax emulsion sealer to the ends of your logs either during our site-evaluation visit, or while we are on-site to mill your logs. This way, you don't need to purchase a sealer and then have to dispose of what isn't used.

Stickers

Stickers are pieces of wood used to separate layers in a stack of lumber. Lumber is stacked this way so that it will dry quickly and evenly. See our page on air drying lumber for more information on this topic.

Stickers can be cut at the same time and from the same logs that are being milled into lumber, and this is a fairly common practice. But, the freshly milled stickers would be wet, or green, like the lumber itself. Most sources of advice on air drying lumber recommend that stickers be dry at the time they are used.
